Current market trends and regulations.
Compliance with strict CO2 regulations, as well as the demand to make the transition to alternative propulsion systems more affordable for end consumers, require new, faster and innovative developments.
ILPEA Energy Systems was born from the need to consolidate ourselves as suppliers and to be able to take advantage of the synergies with our customers and the continuity of our current business, with a long history, to enter to promote and lead in our field of competence the opportunities that the transition to electric, hydrogen, connected and autonomous mobility supposes.
In addition, we aim to replace rubber-based assemblies in lighter thermoplastic solutions, which not only reduce the weight of the vehicle and therefore improve battery life, but are also recyclable, which is an important factor within our Corporate Social Responsibility ambition.
Type of vehicles
Currently the ILPEA Energy Systems division is focused on three large vehicle families:
Electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles and autonomous vehicles.
Electric vehicles
We have been working on cooling systems for electric vehicles for years. The constant change to which the automotive sector is subjected, indicates that the trend is the electrification of the sector.
A key factor is battery cooling for this type of vehicle. Not only can the performance of a battery electric vehicle fluctuate greatly depending on its narrow window of working temperatures, but also overheating can be a serious safety issue.
ILPEA provides customized fluid handling solutions in the thermal management system, including battery cooling, charging module, motor inverter or control systems.
High voltage electric currents with variable frequency in the wires between the batteries, the inverter and the motor generate strong magnetic and electric fields.
Magnetic fields cause interference with electronic equipment in the vehicle and with the on-board computer and data cables.
To solve these interferences, we have developed the innovative EMI shield patented by ILPEA. It consists of three functional layers, a structural inner layer, a triplex aluminum layer that provides the EMI shielding, and an outer layer used to encapsulate the aluminum layer.
This system developed and patented by ILPEA allows the driving of high electric currents through the different elements of the vehicle safely and offering a cost, weight, and dimensions lower than the methods traditionally used for this function.
Hydrogen vehicles
Over the past few years, all automotive manufacturers and suppliers have focused on the development of vehicles and components for lithium battery vehicles. However, some manufacturers have also started to develop hydrogen cell vehicles. This technology solves some of the problems of battery electric vehicles, such as the charging time of the batteries.
This technology has other advantages, it does not emit greenhouse gases, it is very abundant and easy to store and transport.
From our R&D department we work with the information that our customers provide us in relation to this technology. With this information and our knowledge, we develop products to be able to position ourselves as suppliers of hydrogen stack vehicle components.
Autonomous vehicles
The next step after the consolidation of electric vehicles is the implementation of autonomous and connected vehicles, which through computer systems are able to perceive the environment that surrounds them and based on the analysis of this apply driving techniques.
At ILPEA Galvarplast we are working on the development of products for this type of technology and to be able to provide manufacturers of autonomous vehicles, whatever their propulsion technology.
Other areas of action:
We know that new mobility trends aim to reduce vehicle emissions and make the air in cities cleaner. A key factor to improve air quality in urban areas is to ensure that mobility within urban centers reduces emissions considerably.
At ILPEA we are aware of this need and we are working daily to solve the challenges presented by urban mobility.
This branch of ILPEA Energy Systems aims to adapt our knowledge and experience in battery cooling systems and fluid management to urban electric mobility.
