ILPEA has developed an electro-magnetic shielding protection for electrical cables among a wide range of products under the ILPEA Energy Systems subdivision to meet the needs of hybrid, electric and hydrogen vehicles.
Electrified vehicles have the common problem that they require a high voltage for their correct operation. ILPEA has developed a new patented concept that offers efficient protection against the strong magnetic and electric fields produced between the batteries, the inverter, and the motor itself. These magnetic fields must be dampened as they cause interference with the vehicle’s own electronic equipment and data cables.
Usually this is solved with a braided metal shielding to protect the power and data cable. This solution has a high cost and increases the weight of the wiring system. This means a price increase in the final vehicle price as both development and manufacturing costs are increased.
At ILPEA we have patented the EMI shielding wrap that has three layers: an inner structural layer, a triplex aluminium layer that provides the shielding against electromagnetic fields and an outer layer to encapsulate the aluminium layer.
Due to its specific structure, this conduit allows to bend the aluminium film in a very small radius without any failure. Therefore, the goal of high flexibility and 100% physical coverage is achieved in all working conditions.
This solution includes the shielding conduit and the metallic braided terminations to connect the aluminium shield of the corrugated hose to the metallic part of the three-pole connectors. The external elastomer protections you can see in the line’s extremities and the metal braid guarantee the necessary watertightness.
Our goal is to develop a new product family that can overcome the limitations of the current protection system and offer a more efficient electro-magnetic shield in all aspects. This innovative solution achieves a 20% lower weight than traditional solutions, a reduction in dimensions and a lower cost mainly due to the elimination of the metal braids.
