As suppliers of the automotive sector, we have to be attentive to the public opinion around the sector in our country. And we must be cautious when making statements, because they can directly affect investments and employment.
Many people believe that diesel pollutes more than gasoline, when in fact it is a more efficient fuel with lower CO2 emissions compared to new gasoline vehicles. They have 25% less consumption and 15% lower emissions.
In addition, new diesel and petrol vehicles produce pollutant emissions at equivalent levels.
The problem is in vehicles over 10 years old that have much higher CO2 and NOx emissions. The solution to reduce pollution levels in large cities lies in getting old and inefficient vehicles out of circulation.
For years, the entire value chain that makes up the Spanish automotive sector has been making investments in R&D&I to put increasingly clean and efficient vehicles on the market. So far, new diesel vehicles have been able to emit 80% less emissions NOx and 85% fewer particles than 15 years ago.
These achievements have been possible thanks to the thousands of professionals who work in our sector, professionals who have contributed all their technical knowledge and experience to achieve high levels of emission reduction. And, at the same time, putting on the market other propulsion systems (electric and hybrid, LPG / CNG / LNG, diesel and gasoline advanced) that allow the user to have a mix of technologies adaptable to their different needs.
The obvious objective and to which most companies in the sector are committed, is to achieve mobility with zero emissions. And we are demonstrating this day after day, working and developing more technologically advanced, safe and increasingly environmentally friendly vehicles. This evolution must be done in an orderly and progressive way, with consensual measures and solutions that facilitate the mobility of citizens, in its different modalities.
We must transmit reality to citizens from knowledge, with precise data so that, together, we contribute to an increasingly sustainable mobility from the environmental, social and economic point of view.
